Welcome!

The Information Warehouse is the place where you can find, and share, information about the CoG, be it problems you have discovered, questions you have about how to do your shift, or suggestions for the improvement of the CoG. There are two main activities: learn stuff and report stuff. See below! You are welcome to change the stuff you are reading (if you find problems with it, or want to add your two cents), but you'll need to register and create an account (see register link upper right).

Getting Started in Brief

If you look at the upper-right of the screen, there is a menu that takes you to various places in the Information Warehouse. Some main links are "Help/Guide", which takes you here; "FAQ", which takes you to a list of questions (and answers) about the CoG; and "Discussion", which takes you to the on-line discussion boards. Scrolling down from here gives you worker guides that tell you about the various CoG jobs.

Once you poke around a bit, you might want to register (click upper right). This gives you the power to edit content and see the tickets, which is essentially a huge To-Do list for the CoG. There is a lot of information here--it is a warehouse after all--but don't panic! You can't break anything, and randomly looking around might take you somewhere interesting. If you are looking for something specific, try searching for it, using the search feature in the upper right.

Worker Guides

There are manuals for all the various jobs. These give overviews of the job, descriptions of tasks, instructions on how to do things, etc.

They give the basic instructions for your task. The FAQ has answers to the more esoteric or strange questions that may come up.

General Learning

The CoG Overview is an overview of the CoG--i.e., the info on the brochure given to potential members. The FAQ is the place to go to learn answers to specific questions. This is a big document with a long list of questions about doing stuff at the CoG. Go there if the worker guides are not telling you what you need! If you can't find the answer you are looking for, then add in the question and hopefully someone will answer it later on. This site also has general info for members, such as what you should do as a team leader, or what the shifts are. Hopefully this dynamic environment will eventually replace the original static webpage on the main CoG website.

Other Topics to Learn About

Reporting Something

The Information Warehouse is also a clearinghouse for:

  • problems
  • suggested improvements
  • wish-lists
  • and so on...

Something about the CoG bothering you? Say an item that never seems to get entered into the database, or a grammar mistake on some website page? The Information Warehouse is designed to be a place where these things can be reported and then dealt with. Reporting information revolves around something called a Ticket. A Ticket is a single request/observation/suggestion/report/what-have-you that someone creates. The Ticket is then posted and, hopefully, someone will come along and realize the thing and do something about it. Sometimes tickets are assigned to specific people, for example the website manager, when that problem is something only they can resolve.

Trac's Actual Guide

The Information Warehouse is run by a program called Trac. Trac is a program used by groups of computer programmers to help them organize all the information on what is broken and what needs doing with a project. Since computer programmers wrote it, Trac can sometimes be weird and funky, but once you get the hang of it, it is fairly straightforward to use. The guide for Trac itself has been moved for greater clarity for users. See TracGuide for more.
